Anyone live in any of these neighborhoods? I have a few questions about the elementary schools - Ford seems to be the best from my research, but welcome first hand knowledge.
What are the HOA dues and what does it include?
How is the commute to Marietta and are there any short cuts?
What are homes going for in the neighborhood currently?
Is there a sense of "community" or are there so many homes that no one gets together?

Any other tips - good or bad!!

I like Legacy Park. Kennesaw Elementary...good.

Psycho Mill...sorry...Echo Mill--the character of the people in this neighborhood was displayed completely during the McEachern-Hillgrove controversy.

We moved to that area last summer and LOVE IT!

We sortof live near Brookstone and it is very nice, don't have any first hand knowledge tho . We looked for awhile in Legacy Park b/c we loved all the amenities , however once we started touring the schools we quickly crossed it off our list.

Kennesaw Elementary we liked alot, but we didn't like Big shanty and the fact that our kids would be in different schools with the same hours. We definitly did not like the middle school and wasn't sure about the high school lots of mixed opinions on that one.

Echo mill is in Powder Springs I believe, not sure on all the school in that area.

The commute to Marietta depends on what part of Marietta East cobb or West?? Whitlock ave into Marietta square can be a nightmare depending on what time of day. There are some short cuts , but they only take you so far.
Hope that helps...

Could you please elaborate about Echo Mill? Thanks!

My daughter goes to Big Shanty. I was extremely worried about her going to Big Shanty because I had heard so many negative things while she was at Kennesaw Elementary. My nerves were calmed somewhat when I spoke with a few teachers at other Cobb county schools and they told me that Big Shanty had made great improvements over the last few years. I believe they have new administrators that brought in new teachers.
This is my daughters first year at Big Shanty and we are so happy. Her teacher is great. She is in Target and has a wonderful teacher for it. She really seems to be thriving and learning a lot.

I partly grew up in Brookstone I. 29 now, my Father has been there since they built it.

I like Brookstone but you'll need to be careful on if you're talking about phases I, II, or III, the cottages, so and so @ Brookstone, etc. I think phase I are $250 HOA and I pool/tennis and pool/tennis/golf membership is definately alot more.

Half of Phase I is getting split b/t HS (Harrison/Allatoona) zones, not sure about Elementary.

Camden Pointe is next door to Phase I, it is nice, and is in the new HS zone as well.

Getting to Marietta won't be completely horrible but it's basically Stilesboro all the way unless you want to kick out onto 41 early.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Legacy is laid out differently, with many sub-communites wrapped inside a big community. Not sure how it is, but seems decent.

Your sitting in the Legacy Park traffic to Wade Green then hopping on 75. I hear it's bad but so is Stilesboro once you get to John Ward. Again no back roads unless you pop out onto 41.

Echo Mill, no clue

Well, in a nutshell...

Echo Mill now attends Hillgrove High.
Echo Mill was originally zoned for McEachern High and was zoned to remain at McEachern once Hillgrove opened.
Echo Mill is closer to McEachern.
Echo Mill (and other subdivisions north of McEachern) made a big fuss about wanting to get rezoned for Hillgrove...they claimed they were getting "bused" to McEachern because their neighborhoods were predominantly white, while some Hopkins Road neighborhoods were being "bused" to Hillgrove because they were predominantly black.
This was not the case. Echo Mill just wanted to go to a school that was...um...(you can guess why).

Moreover, an Echo Mill resident in the state legislature (E. Earhardt) passed legislation to block Cobb County's original school boundary proposal.

This was a quick synopsis. You still can google (try "McEachern, Hillgrove, rezoning, controversy, etc.") and find many articles on the subject.

well there was just as much hoopla with in Brookstone not wanting to be rezoned out of Harrison to Altoona.. I wouldn't judge a neighborhood based on that! No one likes to be rezoned and redistricted if you are happy at the current school! Our neighborhood didn't make a fuss, but we too are being re-zoned and most of us aren't happy either. That doesn't make the neighborhood pyscho
Now their reasons for wanting to be re-zoned are a different story IMHO.

The elementary schools are also being rezoned within Brookstone also, the whole area got re-districted.

We don't live in any of the neighborhoods you mentioned, but we do have two kids in kindergarten at Ford. So far we have been pleased with the school. Our sons started out a bit behind the other kids academically and the school was very good about getting them the extra help to get them on track with everyone else. They also have Asperger's Syndrome and the school has been very helpful and straightforward with the services available to us so far. Ford has an excellent reputation in West Cobb.

I do notice a strong presence of Brookstone residents at the school. About half of my kids' class are to be redistricted to other schools next year; however all but two of them plan to take advantage of the grandfather clause and keep their kids at Ford. A lot of the kids in my sons' class already knew each other before school even started.

If you are trying to find a home that stays in the Ford district, be sure to check out Cobb County School District's website and take a look at the new boundaries for this fall. Brookstone I is getting split between Ford and Pickett's Mill.

I know a family that lives in Camden Pointe and they really love their neighborhood. I believe they go to Frey right now, but are redistricted to Pickett's Mill....but you should check just in case.
