I used to take our employees out to a ball game or a holiday party, etc., but I always just paid for it out of my own pocket.

We didn't have millions in taxpayer dollars at our disposal but if we did I wouldn't have used them.

Let's see, GT's annual budget for 2018 is $1,782 Mil., and was $1,665 Mil. for 2017. So, $1.1 Mil. is... 0.03% of the institution's total budget...

Why is this supposed to be a big deal again?

Because those taxes have to be paid by real people. If that money had come out of your paycheck, would you be okay with them blowing hundreds of thousands on things like tickets and cocktails at Topgolf and Braves games?
