Henry County has opened quite a few schools over the last few years.

I'm worried that we will also see another round of large layoffs around the end of this school year in May. It's going to take years for the state economy to rebound.
Thank you for the insight. I really appreciate it. Another board member told me that 2011 would be the best time to apply. Sorry to hear about the budget cuts etc. Hope things rebound for the state, actually for the country.

We are hearing talk of another 8 furlough days come January! (for 10 total, that is every single one of our teacher workdays) On top of that, my district layed off 100 classroom teachers (while enrolling 500 new students) & gave us a paycut of 2.3%. Gov. Perdue told us about the furlough days 1 week before we had to return to work.

Things are a real mess here (I would say worse than Florida where I used to work).

I hope things turn around by 2011, but keep in mind that is when the stimulus money runs out. We were told we would have had another 70+ teachers layed off if not for that money.

Alll I can say is that education in Georiga is .

I am going to keep trekking. I am also looking at maryland, va, pa. i have visitted georgia for many years and just loved the area that is why i wanted to move there. i guess I will see what happens.

Thanks again for the info.

I relocated from California to Atlanta, GA 15 months ago. I am aggressively seeking employment as a school guidance counselor. Can anyone help me. I am desperate.

I am very curious how a person with a Master's degree in Special Education from Ok move to Texas and become a certified school counselor (K-12) with no formal graduate work in counseling. I know this person is certified as the state of Texas has this person in their database as such. This happened in 2006, can anyone see how this could have taken place? Very confused....

Now I'm confused.

Is there more FYI--how could posters in an online forum know what the employment process is in TX or was in 2006?

If there was a critical need--in a location where there were few applicants and the individual met the qualifications for certification in TX, then I would say that is how he/she was hired.

In GA--although there's not a lot of hiring going on now--when things were booming --people from the corporate sector w/o degrees in Education were hired, required to complete some basic courses in education but it was considered a plus that their expertise was in other fields.
