Is anyone else tired of the 7-song repeat that EVERY station in Atlanta does?

I was just down in Florida last month right outside of St. Pete, and their radio stations were AWESOME. Almost every time you flipped a good song was on, bunch of old school stuff was getting played, and I rarely ever heard the same song twice.

95.5 the REpeat, V103, Star 94, etc = All garbage. Guess it's time to get satellite radio.

Anybody else feel my pain here?

Nope- switched to Sirius satellite several years ago, and haven't listened to terrestrial radio since.

Yep....since we moved here, I've listened to AM radio, but hardly every FM. Sirius/XM subscriber and that's all I need. You're right though, compared with other big cities, the FM radio choices and quality in Atlanta is pretty poor.

All of these radio stations are not locally owned anymore. They are owned by either CBS, Cox, Cumulus or Clear Channel, which are typical Mega-Corporations intent on stifling diversity and maintaining extreme homogenity at every step of the way.

Even more laughable was these Radio conglomerates' feeble attempts to prevent artists from getting compensated for their music by trying put on radio ads passing themselves off as "downtrodden community radio" and tricking people to vote against U.S. Rep. John Conyers' efforts to get these music artists their rightful compensation.

Corporations can be so despicable.

Another one here who switched to XM/Sirius a few years ago for the same reason. It's not just Atlanta playing the same 10 songs.

Atlanta definitely does not have a whole lot for great stations, but the two I stick to are 92.9 DaveFM, and 99x (97.9).

DaveFM plays some pretty varied stuff, from Bob Dylan to the B52s to 311. There's not much repeat except for whatever the popular song of the week is, which yes, they do repeat a lot (right now it's Green Day Twenty One Guns, which I despise).

99x is more alternative. They just came back on the air after a stint as an online station. Just after they came on the air, I listened to them non-stop because they were playing good 90's and modern alternative. Now they've slipped a little more into the "Hey look at us...we play weird stuff" phase, but it's still a pretty decent station.

Other than that...yeah...it's lacking.

To me, there are some OK stations and you mention two of them, but when you compare the quality and variety of stations in Atlanta to other cities, it really doesn't hold up. In other cities where I've lived, you have more than one station playing the same format, so competition helps to drive quality. Here it seems there is the one hard rock station, the one soft rock station, the one variety station, the one top 40 station, etc.

Yes... Having moved from NY a year ago, I had to get XM as well. The Atlanta market has never been that good for advertising, hence the reason we do not get the abundance of music types as some other markets such as NY/NJ, Chicago etc.

I too have to agree.
I am NOT into rap/hip hop or country, which really limits my choices. But I am really disappointed with the choices in such a LARGE city.
It seems like little old Chattanooga to the north has more rockin radio than Atlanta!
An investor could corner the ad market with an innovative station.

I had to look these up because I don't listen to them either but here's what I found.

soft rock 98.5, 97.1, 106.7
top-40 95.5, 94.1
Rock 100.5, 96.1,
Alternative rock 92.9, 99X


Could it also be that most the stuff out these days is crap? Notice that the OP mentioned old school being played on the good radio stations. I always thought Miami had great radio stations but once you live there, you realize it gets to be the same old stuff after a while.
