I saw Kool and the Gang, Lucinda Williams and others in the Civic Center parking lot during Music Midtown. It was just fine.

I've been to a lot of fests in Atlanta.

This is, by far, the best set-up.

The small stage with trees is the best one. Shade and plenty of sight lines. Smaller artist stage so never a huge crowd.

They wanted to get closer to the hipsters and they accomplished that task.

Yes. You are correct. I didn't fully research the land usage plan of a music festival I have zero interest in, and instead looked at the main part of the park where all the main activity was centered, which is indeed way more than three blocks from MARTA, rather than a distant entrance gate off to the far side, almost 1/4 mile from the main stages.

I hope you can forgive me.

Just the thought of standing on hot asphalt for a few hours doesn't sound very nice or comfy on the feet.

I agree, but somehow it wasn't bad. Maybe they had it configured so there was shade, or maybe we just had good luck with the weather.

Then again, I wouldn't stand in the grass in full Sun during the day, either.

Are these music festivals getting any more diverse? In a city known for its diversity it would sure be nice to find a way to make them more inclusive.

It's a self-described indie rock festival, so it seems pretty silly to get offended that the attendance demographics intersect overwhelmingly with the target audience for fans of that type of music. I suspect Shaky Beats is even more homogeneous.

We're talking music here. Get back to me when you figure out to forcibly integrate that.

Heavens, Icon, I'm not suggesting forcible integration.

But what about an artistic line up and marketing that appeals to a broader audience? These are being held at publicly supported facilities, I assume.

I haven't heard anybody say they were offended.
