It would be so much better and so much cheaper to just add tracks to the CSX corridor between Armour and Emory, and run an FRA-compliant light commuter rail, with the Stadler DMU:

After the Briarcliff Rd station, you could have one station right here under Clifton Rd, that would serve the entire main Emory campus area:

Which would save money, vs multiple stations.

Then the next station would be at Clairmont Rd, which would serve Clairmont corridor and N Decatur Area and the Emory Clairmont campus. Then a N Druid Hills Rd station, then a Northlake station and a Tucker station. Then it's ready to run to Lawrenceville or maybe even Athens.

And meanwhile west of Armour, it can continue to a Brookwood/Piedmont Hospital station at Peachtree Rd, then Northside Dr, new stations in the Tilford ROW, then up to Cumberland and Marietta Square. And you have a regional line.

I agree that running DMU is cheaper and would allow for expansion to Tucker. MARTA's plan had always been to create more connections and run the Clifton Corridor to the Blue Line, which is why they chose LRT.

Also, CSX has been resistant to working with transit using their tracks.

It would be, and would likely give MARTA a useful PR boost after all the project list squabling, as well as a potential show of good-faith to potential private partners.

I doubt it would be nearly as advantageous as you're thinking, especially given the extent of the redesign you're proposing.

It would require an entire new round of studies and public review. It would require an entire restart to engineering work. It would remove the possibility of sharing maintenance facilities with the over all streetcar / light rail facility. It would reduce the neighborhood interaction, which is one of the selling points of the Clifton Corridor rather than a disadvantage as you're thinking. It would also requite an entire new funding source since More MARTA can't fund it.

The Clifton Corridor has a plan. It has public support. It has funding. At this point, changes will require a full restart, further delaying the project by years and years and years.

Inevitably, a little while after that started, you'd get the same complaints of "why can't we build anything ever!?"

The Clifton Corridor is within the core, and has far too much density of jobs and people, both right now and planned for it, to be handled by purely commuter rail. Make no mistake, there should be commuter rail serving some of those locations you mentioned, but not as the primary solution.

Midtown BRT is not happening. Midtown Alliance has essentially killed the project.

They didn't want to give up road-space to bus lanes? Seems rather against some of their stated goals, it seems.

IMO I think it interfered with their intended Piedmont and Juniper Complete Streets.

Yeah, that was a bit of a worry when this was announced. I'd think that Complete Streets could be reworked for including transit lanes. Especially given that MARTA has the money ready.

Good riddance to that Midtown BRT. A lot of this stuff is dumb, but that was the absolute dumbest.
