I am in my 40's now but can tell you what I did as a white male in my 20's. After college, I rented a house with some friends in East Cobb. I had to get ITP ASAP(Inside the perimeter), so me and a buddy moved in an apartment off Pharr Road in Buckhead. We really like being in Buckhead at first. Not job for the nightlife but it was cool to be able to walk and bike to get everywhere. It's also really central to get anywhere in town(I was working in Alpharetta at the time). We had been in our apartment for about 6 months when things turned sour for us down there. We had some neighbors that moved in; constantly making horrendous noise, parties at all house, they had friends come over vandalizing, ect. It got so bad our apartment management let us break our lease. We moved up to a placed call Waterford Place which is right on the border of Sandy Springs and Buckhead on Roswell Road. Loved every minute of it. It was the best of both worlds; close to Buckhead but it had a quaint neighborhood feel. It's close to Chastain Park; tons of trendy restaurants; then you have Perimeter mall close by as well. After this I rented a 1br condo in Vinings for a few years to be closer to a job. Also a cool area but didn't like it as much as Sandy Springs/Buckhead. My last renting tour was in Grant Park. Lived there for 2 years. I think areas real close to town like GP, Va Highlands, and Inman park there are a lot more haves and have nots. It seemed like you were either trendy with money or homleess; no in between. Choose wisely, rent, and if you don't like it; move to a different area after your lease ends.

Definitely live in Brookhaven. Somewhat cheaper than Buckhead, but full of young professionals. I am a married, younger woman in her early 30s. I still know of several women who live in that area who are very successful and still go out and have a good time. Definitely not your 20 something floozies who are looking for a husband. But, if that's your thing, then I say go for Midtown!
