Hi guys,

I am moving from Boston area to Georgia to pursue a degree at Georgia Tech. I am really excited for the move. I am wondering what are some good places to look into renting in the surrounding areas ?

I am going for a one year degree. I would like to study full time for the first semester and potentially go back to work afterwards while I finish up my degree.

I like what I've seen of Atlanta so far and wouldn't mind relocating after I finish school, depending on job opportunities.

My current salary is 70k however I am a little underpaid for the Boston area. Last year 97% of the students in my program graduated with a job and the median salary was 99k. However that means nothing right now because I would still have to pay for school and housing in the mean time. I have about 40k saved.

My rent up here is 1,500 per month and I'm not really comfortable going higher than that while I'm still in school.

I'm looking for a fun, young area that is a reasonable commute to school. I have a decent car and I'm also wondering if I should bring that with me to Atlanta or consider selling it?

Midtown! If you can't pahk ya cah in any free hahvad yahd before school stahts, bring your car. You won't need it much if you live in Midtown but it'll help you reach further places quicker. Midtown will also let you breath a little from the 18-21 college bubble that you could get stuck in. Happy shopping. You should also try our apple cider donuts at some farms. They are good, maybe not Masschusetts-finessed but good nonetheless.

1. Bring your car. You will need it here.
2. $1500 rent will definitely rent you an apartment within 10 minutes drive of Tech. If you look hard, you might even find a townhome within 15 minutes drive

Due to the ad valorem tax here in Georgia you may want to consider selling your car and buying a replacement one here. Check out your own financial situation to see what is best for you.

One of my friends sons just finished his masters at GT and he was in an apt very close to campus and found that he still found use of his car.

Definitely try to get a nice place as close to campus as possible.
