Is the anti-vaccine movement growing in the US? I can't believe that these viruses are becoming a thing again (not to compare to past times obviously).

It's exactly the anti vaccine people that read some facebook article about vaccines leading to autism that are causing this.

This is one of the reasons why science/our educational system needs so much more love than it currently gets. Vaccines leading to autism has been debunked so many times. It's really really sad how our society chooses not to do proper research.

Its a combination of that and illegal aliens coming from countries that don't have broad vaccinations.

Hi Bu2, I was curious and so looked up how measles is spreading the way it is in the U.S. This is what I found:

https://www.cdc.gov/measles/cases-outbreaks.html

It's a pretty good read. One will find that it's mostly people who have traveled to territory "israel" and another year it was visits to France. Basically travelers are going abroad and bringing back measles. In other cases I find that there are many religious people who do not vaccinate their children.

I haven't found GA on any list yet (I know it's still early) but curious as to how it spread.

If only there was a vaccine for that...

Well, I guess you can't "get autism" from a vaccine if you die from measles.

I know it's fun to bash the anti-vax people, and while they make a convenient scapegoat, it's still possible to contract measles after being fully vaccinated:

Quote:
Measles vaccine acquired immunity is reported to wane in at least 5 percent of cases, within 10 to 15 years after vaccination.4,5,6
Quote:
For example, an outbreak of measles in the spring of 1985 in Corpus Christi, Texas, occurred in a school where more than 99 percent of the students were fully vaccinated. After examining serum samples from students for detectable measles antibodies, the study’s researchers concluded that “outbreaks of measles can occur in secondary schools, even when more than 99 percent of the students have been vaccinated…”11
Quote:
In another outbreak in a school in Illinois in 1983-84, the Centers for Disease Control confirmed that the school had a “documented immunization level of 100 percent,"12 suggesting the possibility of certain amount of primary vaccine failure or waning immunity since it had been 10 or more years since the students, who got measles, had had their last measles shot.

Some research reveals that exposure to natural measles not only is actually necessary to maintain protective antibodies in vaccinated persons, but also may help prevent symptoms of allergic diseases.13,14 Still other research shows that measles vaccine acquired immunity wanes over time, providing an opportunity for subclinical (asymptomatic) measles infections to occur in fully vaccinated populations.15

I actually know 3 people recently, whos kids were perfectly fine and functional and communicated well, and after the MMR shot, they all came down with Autism afterwards. After seeing that with my own eyes, im a bit more skeptical on CDC data.
But 3 people in a metro area with Measles, isnt really a big concern when we have 5 million people in the metro.
