Growing up on Harvard Road, de facto Druid Hills was considered to end after Emory Road (which was one street over). Anything above that off Briarcliff was NDH. The delineation was underscored by the fact that kids on Emory Rd went to Fernbank/Druid Hills, and on Poplar Grove Dr went to Briarvista/Briarcliff. Also, that neighborhood built out about 35-40 years after ours.

Hehe...ah, I see. You also became Princess Briar Vista (unless different boundaries back then?).

Victoria Estates was zoned for Kittredge Elementary in the Stone Age. It later became the Magnet School for High Acheivers. Lately it's been been serving as the temporary quarters for John Lewis Elementary.

Ah yes, Kittredge was a regular elementary prior to becoming the magnet. That makes sense with the former zoning.

Remember that there were a helluva lot of kids in NDH in the 60's and 70's. In that neighborhood alone you had four elementary schools:

Kittredge
Margaret Harris
WD Thomson
BriarVista

What happened to the OP? Did we scare her off?
Honestly, I think given what we know, I would go with Druid Hills East. 900K is not going get you into anything much west of Clifton, so she most likely would be in the Fernbank district. Morningside is great, of course, but isn't the elementary school bursting at the seams right now? There's talk of converting Inman to an elementary school as well with the opening of Howard, so residing in Morningside is no guarantee that your child would remain at Morningside Elementary. Fernbank, on the other hand, has just completed a new and expanded facility.

If it’s CoA in Morningside, I would expect for the school quality to be pretty stable in any event—and you may seeing even more chunks of Druid Hills/Emory going CoA’s way over the next ten years anyway (good for CoA and Druid Hills, I think. Bad for Dekalb County Schools).

You're likely right, jeoff, as there really are no 'bad' elementary schools in that part of CoA, and they all receive a large amount of community support: Morningside, Mary Lin and Springdale Park. Inman will be drawing from basically the same pool as those mentioned.
I'm an unabashed supporter of a Druid Hills annexation as well, to the extent of bringing in the Fernbank/DHHS cluster into COASS. To do so would likely require the creation of a new middle school, however.

Like the East Cobb of the Kennedy/Johnson/Nixon/Ford/Carter Era.
