This new report surfaced at the AJC an hour ago.
Does anyone have any more insider info or just speculation to offer on this report? Such a move of the HQ to Atlanta would really be a major coup!

On a related note, I've long pondered creating a thread as regards Norfolk Southern & what I've heard from former employees about what they see as institutionalized racism among some of the mid level or higher areas of management at their Midtown Peachtree Street facility.
Does anyone have any knowledge or perspective on that?
This could be termed a multi-pronged thread on Norfolk Southern.

NS is a really great fit right there, where all those historic railroad lines converge. And within walking distance of Five Points MARTA station, so that employees and guests can directly and conveniently access our major airport.

It would be nice if, as part of them moving here, the state can negotiate some capacity for passenger rail on their lines.

If what you say is true about the personnel issues, that could be part of the reason why they're moving to a major city as well. Norfolk isn't exactly a melting pot of cultures and ethnicities.

It's being speculated that Amazon is also targeting DC and Atlanta to counter the perception that the company and the tech industry in general is hostile to African Americans.

Maybe they could take their old building back. Then they could be Gulch Buddies with Amazon.

I think Amazon should locate in the Spring Street Corridor of Midtown--anywhere between North Avenue and Rhodes Hall.

And now there is this news development yesterday which seems to be a part of the possible Norfolk-Southern HQ relocation.

Norfolk Southern Corp. wants to sell its remaining land in downtown’s Gulch and use the proceeds to invest in a new Midtown headquarters, according to several people familiar with the discussions.

The headquarters project is tied to the company’s hopes of selling a large swath of the 40-acre Gulch, the historic former downtown rail-yard where Norfolk Southern’s property dates back to the late 1800s.

So Norfolk Southern movng their HQ to Atlanta is now confirmed.

It'll be interesting to see where they ultimately end up.
