Close to 10,000 new people made Atlanta home for the weekend using Airbnb rentals.
"Between August 31st and September 3rd, that whole span of Labor Day weekend, there were about 9,780 guest arrivals of Airbnb guests in the city,” spokesperson Crystal Davis tells WSB Radio.
That is a 20 percent jump over the same time last year.
Davis says close to 10,000 folks checked into Airbnb's for a variety of events.
“There was black pride weekend, the Chick-fil-a kick-off game, and also the Dragoncon festival," Davis explains.
Decatur resident Jen Lorthe is getting in on the record-breaking stats, hosting an Emory student. "School is back, almost in full swing; people are shuffling around into new apartments," Lorthe says, adding that this allows for the perfect time and use for an Airbnb rental.
With all the rentals – metro Atlanta residents took in $1.3 million over the weekend. That is a 55 percent increase over last year's Labor Day weekend.
