Hi, wondering if anyone would have a personal experience with a private school for language based learning disability. I am looking for somewhere that will give him support, but also be on college track. He is very calm and has no behavioral issues, just struggles with reading, writing and specifically low in receptive language. I've looked at The Howard School, Schenk, Sage, but just not sure which is the right fit.

He's currently in 3rd grade with an IEP, but I don't think the public school setting is giving him the right support.

Thanks!

Have you not looked at Atlanta Speech School?

I’ve heard of it, but didn’t know too much. Do you have experience with the school or know someone who does? There are just so many options it seems overwhelming.

Thanks for the feedback!

It's an amazing school and should be top of your list for a child with a language-based issue. If you haven't already had a full psychoeducational evaluation for your child, you will need to do so before applying to any of the specialty schools you mentioned. Information regarding the Wardlaw School program within the Speech School attached below:

If you're interested in either Speech or Schenck, apply early (e.g., NOW) because they use a rolling admissions system and by January, the spots will be gone.

One of my daughters attended Schenk for four years. It was a wonderful experience and got her on a great path for middle and high school.

Thanks!! Good to hear. I don't know anyone who has went to any of these schools so it's good to hear a first hand perspective.

I recommend eventually looking into Ben Franklin Academy. It's a mastery school that allows a student to move at their own pace. It also has the benefit of small class sizes (5:1 student/teacher ratio).
