The wife and I will be visiting in September-actually flying into Nashville, renting a car and then making a loop thru GA, SC, NC and back to Nashville for the flight home. We're taking a one week tour and may have only one night in Atlanta before heading southeast for Savannah and the coast. So, what attractions are the "Must See" places the locals take visitors with limited time in Atlanta.

If it helps at all, we're interested in civil war history, brewpubs, general sightseeing. Thanks in advance for the advice.

How much time to you have? Here's what I would recommend if you were to tour Atlanta in a day:

-Buckhead
-Midtown
-Piedmont Park
-Virginia Highlands
-Little Five Points
-Grant Park (especially the Cyclorama, since you said you like Civil War History)
-Underground Atlanta
-Peachtree Center
-Centennial Park/CNN Center (also the Aquarium and Coke Museum if you have time)
-Atlantic Station

If you go in that order, those locations are in a clockwise loop. It can be done in one day, but it's going to be one long day that you'll need to start bright and early, and you'll be doing a lot of walking.

Yes the Cyclorama is a must see for Civil War History: Atlanta Cyclorama and Civil War Museum

Here is a list of brew pubs and microbreweries in Atlanta: Georgia Brewpubs and Microbreweries

Sea gave you a nice list of options for the City.

If Oakland Cemetery is reopened by your visit. I would head there too. There are a lot of Confederate soldiers buried there. The recent tornado did some damage to the cemetery and it's not that far from the Cyclorama. Historic Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta

Have fun!
