I am a mother of 4 and currently going through a divorce. I am interested in relocating from WI to GA. I've visited and love the culture and entertainment of Atlanta, however feel it is too busy a new single parent of young children. I am researching LaGrange and Columbus. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a PhD. and currently work in the fields of education as well as counseling and therapy. I am looking for information on the school systems as well as the cost of living. I need something affordable (for a single parent).

Thanks

I think you need to give people a bit more info.
Your budget for housing.
Where your job will be (No1 Advice: live near your job, especially with kids etc).
Do you prefer to live in the suburbs or in-town.
Did you visit any neighborhoods when you were here last, if not you should consider doing that to get a better feel.

I think you will get more answers .....

Default Moving toGA area

Thank you so much for replying so quickly. My housing budget is $1000/mo. I would prefer to reside in the suburbs. I have no idea where I'll be working however I would like to remain in the field of education (school social work). Can you suggest any builders? I'm leaning close to LeGrange because I read (on this site) that the Columbus public schools are being taken over by gangs???? Also, does anyone know how long land/lot can sit before I begin building on it?

I think you will find some valuable information on schools by reading the sticky at the top of the Atlanta forum "School Ratings Thread".

You should post this on the Georgia forum to get more feedback on anything outside the metro Atlanta area.

Good luck

Very true. I doubt 9 out of 10 Atlantans could tell you where LaGrange or Columbus are, much less specifics about schools or cost of living.

Have you thought about Newnan, GA? It is just north of LaGrange, and a wonderful little town to live and raise a family. I grew up there and I have lots of friends and family who still live in the area. I will most definitely move back as soon as I decide to have children. With the housing market being in a bit of a slump, now is a great time to buy, and I think you could definitely find a beautiful home in your budget.

I even know some great realtors who work in the Newnan, Peachtree City, LaGrange areas...would be happy to pass along their info. if you need help getting more in-depth information. They're great people and would be happy to help you!

Good Luck with your plans!
