So my search has been leading me towards east atlanta area where I found a few small houses/townhomes (garage is important to me) in my range with close access to the freeway which I liked. I know my commute would get worse but I liked the fact that I would be close enough to Edgewood, Inman Park, Little Five Points as well as Midtown. I don’t have any kids and don’t foresee having to worry about school system for a while. Others have suggested looking at Smyrna/Marietta area but I’d like to stay ITP if possible and not get into the suburbs especially since I’m still single and like to go out.

Thanks
I think it's really important to give an idea what your budget for housing is. Would help to better nail down an east side neighborhood.

Also, don't discount NW Atlanta (Underwood Hills, Hills Park, Bolton, "Upper Westside", Blandtown). There may not be a whole lot of walkable bars and restaurants everywhere (more are showing up all the time), but you're going to get a little more house for your money and parking is never an issue. Also, Buckhead is accessible without getting on the highway. Usually about 20 minutes off peak, and 30-40 minutes at peak.

This. I don't know where your office in Buckhead is, but if it's close enough to the Bulkhead MARTA stop, then park at one of the east side MARTA stations and ride up.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback. While my office is not that close to Marta Buckhead stop I didn’t think of park and ride options in EATL should I want to do that so thanks! I don’t want to spend more than 250 and I have been looking at places close to the parkview neighborhood in unincorporated dekalb county. It definitely feels like you have to look at it street by street as the subdivision I looked at and those around were very nice but with rougher areas close by. Anyhow I can’t predict the future but looks like a great location especially if the overall area keeps improving. Lastly as far as parking I meant the possibility to have people park at your house for free as this is even a tough one to come by in congested Buckhead.

Thanks again!
