44 days? Uhh try 26 days total. 5 days in November. 21 from Dec to January. And some units that were shut down in November were funded before the December shutdown (figure 1).

To give you an idea, during the 5 day shutdown, about 800,000 workers were furloughed. During the 21 day stint, it dropped to just ~285,000 workers. MUCH less of the government was shutdown.

There isn't going to be a SOTU this year, at least not from the floor of the House. Pelosi has basically uninvited him, and she has the power to do so. She suggested he do a written one, or broadcast it from the Oval office.

Because it was short term...
Banks will be closed this Monday for a holiday. Imagine being so obtuse as to think that since everything is fine with the banks closed for three days (including the weekend) that therefore they could be closed indefinitely cause they clearly aren't needed.

You're arguing about all this "waste" based on short term events. Everything was fine with previous shutdowns because they ended

It was a typo I thought it was 24 days not 26. Thanks for correcting me.

Pets heads aren't falling off and we have eclipsed that threshold at this point. Seems there are certain people who are vested in spreading scare tactics over this shutdown. This shutdown is different from no others. All because Democrats refuse to give Trump 1/10th of a cent on the budget dollar!

You realize this is no longer a short term event? Things are as normal as they usually are. Tomorrow is Friday. Lets stop with all the scare tactics and paranoia until something actually happens.

We've already been over this. If you still don't get it, then you are willfully ignorant.

I wish the TSA and FAA would walk off the job for one day. Trump would be forced to end this within 24 hours.

Don't you think there is a reason she doesn't want him to speak? I mean it should be obvious. It will be disaster to have a guy like Trump speak to congress and the country over a shutdown that is over 1/10th of a cent on the budget dollar. It isn't in Pelosi's best interest to do such which is why she isn't.

That is not set in stone. If he reopens the government before then (and not at the last minute), it will more likely than not go on as normal.
