Favorite Place to Take a Hike In/Near Atlanta Metro (Roswell: restaurants, shops)

I've been to Atlanta a few times. Thinking of making another short trip (~ 4 days?) this spring.

I know it's a BIG city, but I'd like to experience some of the best nature/hiking opportunities in or near the Atlanta metro.

Per research on Yelp, these places look promising. Interested to get Atlantans perspective on which you all like best -- or whether I've missed any of your favorites.

Places to Take a Hike:

o Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve

o McDaniel Farm Park

o Old Mill Park

o Silver Comet Trail

Are you open to a short drive to the mountains? If so, it opens up a ton of hiking options. If you're just set on in-town, or local hikes, the Paper Mill ruins are one of my favorites:

Chattahoochee River Trails are great because you are right along the river - Palisades East is an interesting trail right in the city limits and ends in a cool bamboo forest. The Vickery Creek paths (also part of the Chattahoochee River Trail network) are easy and pretty and give you an excuse to visit historic Roswell with good restaurants/bars/shops... if that is your sort of thing.

The Big Creek Greenway and Silver Comet are both paved trails which for make great biking, but aren't my favorites for walking/hiking.

Kennesaw Mountain is another place to add to your list.

With Chattahoochee, I commonly see deer at the Island Ford unit.

Kennesaw Mountain was nice. I went there once. There was another place...not sure if it was in Atlanta or in Roswell but the entrance (at least the one I know about) was almost hidden. It was on a very tiny road where basically only one car could fit. You'd park and the "mountain (not sure if it's considered a mountain but to me it was)" is right there. There is also a park nearby.
