Hello,
My husband and I are relocating to Atlanta from Long Island, NY and are focusing on Kennesaw. Does anyone know of activities for kids in the area ie. clubs -science, math, language, cub scouts etc). My boys will be entering 3rd and 4th grades in September. Is there a recreation center or ymca in the area that offer educational and sports activities, ie, swimming, tennis, gymnastics, karate etc) I checked the posts, but didn't see anything discussing the topic.

Thanks in advance for your replies. Anything would be really helpful.

You do know that if you wait until Sept, your boys will be starting school a month late. Cobb County starts August 11th. It is hard enough to be the new kid, it is even harder to be the new kid coming in late.

You really ought to do your best to get here by then. Scouts will most likely be offered by your kids' school.

I know it will make for a short summer for your children, but they will be out by Memorial Day the next year.

Oh good point! When we moved down here we actually pulled our then second grader from school before the end of the school year (end of June in our former location), to accommodate the move and give her a bit more summer break before starting school again in early August. It's definitely best to start school on opening day with the other kids.

I live in Kennesaw and have 2 children. We stay busy with all of their activities. My daughter takes gymnastics and is a Girl Scout. My son play baseball with Kennesaw Baseball Association. They are both going to take tennis this summer. The kids want to do more but we can only be in one place at a time.

We love it here. We are within walking distance to a large new park that just opened last fall. We have been very pleased with the schools. All of the teachers we have had have been great.

So do you live in the 30144 zip or 30152. I hear that 30152 is nicer. We are also relocating...going to go up from tampa to look for a house in 2 weeks and plan on moving by june 1st. Need a great school for our soon to be 2nd grader.

Thanks Lastminitemom,

I actually meant by August. I forgot that Ga starts in August. I was still on NY timetable when I put that in the post. Yes, we are definitely aware. Thanks

Not only are there a lot of activities in the area, but there is so much to do in general. From hiking and camping in North Georgia to staying in town and going to the Aquarium! There is so much to do that your kids should stay busy!
