Many of these steakhouses mentioned have plenty of great alternatives to steak; Chops has a much-touted lobster bar.

If seafood is more your thing, then I would recommend The Optimist.

I have seen plenty of women eat red meat and drink red wine.

Did not make a comment about red wine. I eat steak but I would prefer a restaurant for Valentines that would be a little more diverse in its dining options. Went to Bones once and it looked like a man cave to me. Aria is much lovelier in decor which I would prefer for a romantic option. But to each his own - or her own.

Bacchanalia, Miller Union, Canoe, Aria are some of the better restaraunts that are a bit more upscale.

I would try *not* to book anything with a "Valentine's day" menu. This is basically a set menu (usually more limited than their normal menu) with jacked up prices.

The way I see it, it's a bit of a spending splurge, sure, but it's no different than buying a woman a fancy purse, or a nice piece of jewelry. Plus, it always gives one a good reason to dress up.
