What do y'all think of this?

Apparently the idea is to hold judges more accountable in dealing with criminals by having community residents sign up to monitor them and go sit in their courtrooms.

I'm guessing this may have gotten started as part of the aftermath of that murder outside the Capital City Club. The victim had been to a wedding and was standing outside the club waiting for an Uber, when he was gunned down by a teen. It turns out the teen had a history of criminal violence; however, over the objections of prosecutors, the judge had released him into a rehab program.

Wonder whether other areas of the city will do something similar? I'll have to give the folks up in Buckhead credit for getting involved.

I didn't see this mentioned anywhere in the article but I'm wondering if the judge is letting people go because jails in Atlanta are full. This is why the war on drugs needs to end and why we need to support leaders who advocate for this.

You have non-violent people being put in jail for drug offenses and then these ones that harm people are able to avoid jail. You have the police who are incentivized to lock people up because they have to meet a quota-this quota benefits our for-profit prison system. It's utterly disgusting the way the system enslaves and nickel-and-dimes people.

We need to be treating non-violent drug users or people who are found with possession as patients and not criminals. Perhaps then there will be a ton of space in jails/prisons for violent people who not only harm once but are habitual offenders.

And here I thought there was a judge shelter out there somewhere looking to put judges in forever homes.

Yes..all jails in Atlanta are basically full..
Atlanta City Detention Center.. the least talked about jail in the city is never full - well at least not anymore due to Atlanta not accepting ICE detainees anymore.

But on another hand it only holds pretrial arrestees, sentenced ordinance and traffic offenders and custody of federal prisoners awaiting trial and mostly to full a contract with the US Marshal Services.

Fulton County Sheriff Office Jail is a different story
ACDC is a jail
FCSOJ is a prison and yes they do treat it like so on the outside and inside

Well, it's good to see communities who are the victims of crime start getting involved in the justice system.

A relatively small number of people are the ones committing the bulk of the crimes and they don't need to be on the streets. Just the other day they caught some guy up on Park Avenue for car theft and it was his 14th time. Folks like that need to be taken out of circulation.

Folks should also quit leaving their firearms and laptops and car keys in their vehicles. It's a pain but just go head and bring them in the house. What good is your weapon if you've left it in the car?

They say that nearly half the cars stolen had their keys left in them. Plus thousands of guns are stolen out of cars.

Thank you. The article should have indicated this. Again, mainstream media isn't doing its job. Non-violent offenders are largely contributing to Atlanta's (not just Atlanta but staying on topic) full jails. Those who complain ought to communicate with their leaders to revamp our criminal justice system. Many of those going to jail/prison would benefit from treatment programs versus criminalizing them. Now we have people who are dangerous out on the streets.

I'm a very liberal person but if you cannot conform to the standards of modern society, then wareshouses a person until social security kicks in is about the only solution.
