I love rankings like this in lieu of strip clubs, and immature music artists.

" Atlanta is emerging as the nation's "black tech capital," according to a report from USA Today."

The city deemed the Black Mecca is also #1 for black people in certain fields?

It's positive news and all, but not necessarily groundbreaking.

LOL my thoughts exactly when I read the title of the thread. Not exactly surprising.

I agree with the posts but add that tech is relatively seen as a safe space for white/Asian men. It lacks in diversity towards women and blacks/Hispanics. It's nice to see that somewhere in the U.S. there is more diversity in the field. Again, tech is definitely NOT known for diversity.

My thoughts exactly! Hopefully this could one day translate into a mini tech square near AUC. This is a move in the right direction. Who's know a possible Amazon like CEO as an African American could be lurking around in Atlanta right now.

I looked this up (what AUC is). It would be nice for there to be more representation (tech) in the AUC area.

As for Amazon-like (reading on the company's history), I wouldn't want any black person to run their company like Amazon ran theirs and besides ethical concerns, it's better that they come up with something original. Even if they copy Amazon in some ways, they will have to find something noticeable that sets them apart from Amazon.

I have a friend who's a manager at one of the top three Silicon Valley tech companies who was able to convince his company to allow him to move to Atlanta because working in the Valley was putting a damper on the life side of the work/life balance equation. Though he felt like he could be his full self in the workplace, the dating scene for black guys was tough. When he got to Atlanta and went to a tech meetup event, he marveled at how more than half the attendees where black. In the Valley, he'd be the one and only.

I think The Gathering Spot will be the anchor for the Westside tech scene, though, because of the infrastructure on that side of town, it won't be nearly as accessible to the AUC as Tech is to Midtown or Atlanta Tech Village is to Buckhead.

Great news.

I do wish that the local political leadership would seize upon this situation. And perhaps convince the State's Augusta Cyber Center to sponsor high-tech events in the Metro-Atlanta K-12 schools and the colleges.

I think the black church should get involve with tech for the youth, but I won't hold my breath on it.

Anyways, it's good that Atlanta is trying to get some of that mid-to-late 1990s dot-com magic back.

It's long overdue.

Nice to see you post again, AcidSnake! I agree with leaders promoting positive change but think the black church needs to stay out of it. They do more harm than good. Education isn't something churches typically prize anyway.
