With the results largely in it looks like all three Cobb cityhood referendums have been solidly rejected by the voters.

Yeah, I would have been very surprised if they had passed. Vinings and Lost City were pretty close, but East Cobb said a definitive "No thanks."

Does anyone have a link to the final/most recent tallies?

Yeah, from the start it was a solution looking for a problem.

We'll see if the Mableton one fares similarly, or if that passes. That was seemingly the only one with any real merit.

The western Sope Creek-Paper Mill-Terrell Mill Area wanted it:

Considering that Cobb, at least IMHO, is hands down, the best run of the five core Metro Atlanta counties, with the lowest taxes, and best school district, there was not much justification for the cityhood movement other than race, class, and the reaction to Cobb trending Democratic. If there is an area of Cobb that has sort of received the short end of the stick, it’s that Mableton area. Also, that area does have more of a historical sense of community than the other areas that sought incorporation.

So, with these three votes going strongly against cityhood, does this mean that the Mableton movement is already dead on arrival?

You think Cobb is better run than Gwinnett overall?

I do think Gwinnett messed up with their hyper-sprawl love in the 80s, 90s, and early 00s.

Yes, I do give the edge to Cobb, but it’s not a huge gap over Gwinnett. DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond, IMHO, is the best overall County CEO/Chairman, but has had to overcome so many years of inefficient, ineffective, and incompetent county government. Being that Fulton is almost completely incorporated by cities, the cities vary in their level of service delivery, with the edge going to the N Fulton cities. Clayton sometimes gets a bad rap because of the socio economic standing of many of its residents, and it’s past issues with school accreditation, but it’s pretty solidly run.

Sope Creek 03
After defeat, East Cobb Cityhood group takes down website - East Cobb News

Quote:

The only precinct in which YES votes prevailed—Sope Creek 3—includes the Atlanta Country Club where some Cityhood group leaders live.

“I predict they drill it down to just Atlanta Country Club and Paper Mill Rd—THAT will be their East Cobb,” quipped one commenter.

“They can have it,” responded another.
