According to a permit filed March 21 in Atlanta, the new location of "Switchyards Neighborhood Club" is planned for 691 West Whitehall St. SW.

The property is next to the West End MARTA station and near “The Met,” developer Carter’s 1.1 million-square-foot redevelopment of a former cotton warehouse along Metropolitan Parkway.

Switchyards said on its website that the 10,000-square-foot warehouse will primarily be used for "hosting big events, conferences, launch parties, workshops, weddings and everything in between..."

I like Tavani.

I think his perspective on start-ups, what they should be and how they contribute to the area is much more impressive than the other serial entrepreneurs and tech CEOs in Atlanta.

Has Switchyards been a success?

I suppose it depends how you define "success", but by most measures I think the answer is "yes". I have a membership there and it is steadily busy.

I didn't make it to the West End location yet, but it looks great.

I am quite happy with what they have done and think they are a force for doing good things in Atlanta.

Now if they can just get enough support for a road diet on Ted Turner Dr. Having your front door open on to a four-laned one-way speedway is not ideal.

Please, I take that road all the time.

Hyperbole of this level doesn't help your cause. Cars don't go fast on this road at all, there's a light at every block and they aren't timed well. There's hardly enough time to generate speed even if you wanted to.

Is it possible for us to discuss ANYTHING here without you trying to hijack the conversation to one of your talking points?

"Fast" from the perspective of a driver and pedestrian are quite different. You should try walking along there more and see how comfortable and safe it feels.

I assure you traffic there is going plenty fast enough to kill.

Streets like this that try to be both a fast route for drivers as well as a vibrant & safe place for pedestrians fail at both.

This street is neither fast enough for drivers nor is it safe and welcoming for pedestrians to spend time (and dollars).

This might be a record for how quickly a thread has gone off-topic in this forum.

My post is about Switchyards. But if you come in like ATLTJL and respond by only focusing on off-topic areas, I will still address it.

As for the main topic. I think this new location will do well.

Like their existing location, it is very accessible:

But I think they are only using it as an event space right now. The only event I know of is the one they had there is the one they just had with Killer Mike.

Switchyards is a great coworking & social space downtown which you can only get to by walking down and/or across a street with four lanes of traffic going up to 40mph.
