The thread title is misleading, a sale doesn’t mean the headquarters is moving yet. We don’t know the desire of the purchasers.

This isn't NCR dissolving or getting acquired or merged I don't think- sounds more like just change of majority ownership, possibly.

This actually already happened in 2015, when I was still working there. The investors just ended up buying 40% of the company instead of the majority, at that time.

Of course, big changes might result, but the business itself shouldn't be changing, and they just built the new buildings so I doubt any jobs are leaving Atlanta, anytime soon.

This is why they are a prime takeover target....

The company is full of value, patents, customer base, etc...

But the company was overspending, spending too much acquiring smaller companies for intellectual property without payout to protect their market share, and failing to meet goals using its core business alone. In the hands of an outside investors they can use that intellectual property and get more for it by putting it elsewhere.

The problem they will face is they could drastically cut R&D spending and see short-term gains, but that will open up to new competitors and loss of future needed patents for future growth and open them to more competitors.

They could unload the intellectual property assets in different directions, but that would place the company into being a shell of what it was.

It could be a business that needs the patents for new industries/technologies for things they can't rely on contractors NCR are for alone.

Whenever a company has that much intellectual property... anything can happen in an acquisition.

The Turner/HBO deal has actually netted Atlanta a few dozen jobs since announced.

Looks more like an ownership change rather than a relocation..

The bleeding of senior management and production work at Turner/CNN over the last few years have been well documented and given that AT&T has announced the former Turner divisions will be merged into entities based out of NYC and LA, it would be quite naive to assume more jobs won't leave Atlanta for NYC/LA.

From the Wall Street Journal below:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wsj...it-11551708372

"The deepest cuts are likely to occur at Turner, which accounted for roughly as much operating income at Time Warner as HBO and Warner Bros. combined. The consolidation could force more jobs to relocate from Turner’s longtime base in Atlanta, where AT&T had already been closing offices in its own telecom division before the merger, choosing to focus on its Dallas headquarters as well as expanding its presence in New York and Los Angeles"
