This has zero to do with being progressive. And being progressive surely isn't something to be proud about. Half the states or more have this same law.

Idk guys. I know Stacey Abrams is misguidedly putting an ad out there with a 70s TV saying that Kemp wants to take us "back in time"— when really, the new gun laws aren't taking us back, but instead stepping us into a new uncertain reality. You had to have a permit for concealed carry going back as far as I know (the 70s, if not before). Guns have never been allowed at festivals before— they usually have a metal detector you have to walk through to get in.

I haven't heard of this situation happening in any other state, but you're welcome to provide sources.

Also lets not act like you can walk into the Gold Dome or a UGA football game with a gun. A limit exists.

What situation? A festival like this being canceled? This is on the idiots who run Music Midtown. If it hasn't happened in other states, good on the organizers for not being so petty considering 24 other states have the same or similar type law https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/blo...rry-in-states/

The venues listed above make a conscious effort to make it difficult to bring a gun inside. Sounds like Music Midtown could learn something from them.

You realize this isn't about constitutional carry right?

The ruling essentially said that a long term lease on public land grants some amount of ownership of the land to that private entity which allows them to restrict guns while in a short term lease/event the land is still considered public, so guns cannot be restricted.

IMO if this happened 5 years ago the law would be fixed to allow for ticketed large private events in public parks/areas to be exempt. With how everything is today who knows, I'm sure Kemp doesn't like the optics of it right before his election though.

To your previous point that the Gold Dome and Sanford Stadium "make a consensus effort to make it difficult to bring a gun inside. Sounds like Music Midtown could learn something from them." misses the point that it is illegal for this festival to restrict guns due to the law and GA supreme court ruling.

Conscious effort*

Which is a direct result of the new law right? They had no issue before it was passed. Overall, sounds like a poor business decision. The lineup was atrocious, probably had weak ticket sales to begin with.

No, its not from the new law & they had no issues until the ruling from a lawsuit related to an older law.

The low ticket sales thing seems to be the line, but this is really due to artists stipulating in their contract that weapons are restricted from the festival. You can't really hold a music fest with no artists. Beyond that regardless of their sales, this will have impacts on other events around the state.
