Alpharetta may be the most coveted suburb of Atlanta and the entire Southeast at this point. In the last 10 to 15 years it has transformed itself from a decent suburban city to a much more happening, hip place.. Lots of hi tech jobs and diversity in the area.

Thank you all for the responses! It's been over 15 years since I lived out in that area (lived in Marietta) so it's awesome the hear that Alpharetta is becoming a central hub.
I'll be flying our for an interview next Wednesday, but don't think I'll have enough spare time to check out the area.

Take a virtual drive - if you click forward you will come to the main intersection of downtown Alpharetta, if you turn right into the next street you'll see all the new construction. This was from last November so there is still a fair amount of construction but if you look around this area you can see all the new buildings and amenities.

Also, there is a lot happening around Avalon now. Take a virtual drive around here too.

Good luck!

markjames68 - this is awesome! You rock.

I'd heard mention of Avalon a couple times, but when I would Google map it I'd get a rural city north of Athens. Guess Avalon is more of a city centre in Alpharetta?

Avalon is a mixed-use development within Alpharetta.

As flamadiddle said it’s a mixed use community - I moved to the area a bit more than a year ago so I don’t know what was there before but I had heard it was kind of an industrial blighted area.

But I’d imagine you’d meet up with friends and chill out either at Avalon or in the new downtown area. And then head into Atlanta.

This at least gives you a taste so if the interview/offer process works out you aren’t going in totally blind. What field are you in?

Something like this...

That was a development that went belly up in 2008.
