This is an unfortunate decision to save a nominal amount of money:

This is US70 Eastbound which is the Goldsboro Bypass. US70 is now building the last two bypasses required to become Interstate 42 from Raleigh to Morehead City/Atlantic Beach.

There is a small deep-water port there, and that along with the fact that growing Coastal region doesn't have but one interstate (I-40 to Wlimington's deep-water port) is some of the reasoning for this new interstate designation, one of about 10 new interstates awarded to NC recently.

Have you considered just getting a job with GDOT?
