It is derailing the thread.
I will send you a private message and take this off the forum.

The thread has spiraled out of control.

When one is a slave, there is no concept of choice.
There was a militia of free Blacks from New Orleans who proudly joined the Confederate army. Of course, when it looked like the North was winning, they switched sides.

Yes, it has. And it didn’t have to be that way.

Those were probably a regiment of gens de couleur libres working to protect “their freedoms” because of the more progressive—considering the times—French/Spanish attitude towards race, freedom, and slavery. The attitude and atmosphere was still prevalent in NO...even though LA had been controlled by the US since 1803. The gens de couleur libres saw the writing on the wall for decades—that infiltration of any kind would upset the delicate balance of a multi-tiered caste system that allowed certain Blacks freedoms and a way of like not found anywhere else in the US at the time.

Okay but I don’t think it’s fair for you to make accusations against someone in public, then when people ask why, say “I’ll dm you”. You either need to keep it to the dms or just not make baseless accusations. If you can’t back it up then you have nothing to go off of.

^^^^^^ this

The Catholic French and Spanish, although racist, viewed intermarriage differently than the Protestant English, which explains why New Orleans has such a different vibe than Atlanta or the rest of the South for that matter.

It's a open secret that's been passed around this board by other members.

If her family didn't own slaves, then state it. If they did, then own it. None of us can change the past, but we can fight racism together in the future if we're open and honest about our history.

I don't know if you're a person of color, but when white Americans boast about their pedigree, "x number of generations," it stings because POC suffered and bled as slaves so that wealthy white folks could drink mint juleps and wear ridiculous hoop skirts on the same plantation. They were establishing that pedigree that white Atlantans look back on fondly.

But it's our shared history, and yes, we can move on. But if we're going to mention our heritage we also need to own up to the baggage that comes with it. It's just coming clean and open with everyone.

As long as it’s unconfirmed by Iconographer, it’s a rumor.

What I applaud most is that it was handled well. However, it's racist itself to assume that he was being racist without knowing more or hearing his side. Personally I think he was a dope for flying the Confederate flag as he did, but that doesn't automatically make him a racist.
While many on this board and the KKK may view it as a racist symbol, there was a survey after Charlottsville that showed that 2/3 of Americans did not.
