"A business incubator for women entrepreneurs is coming to the top floor of downtown Atlanta's historic Flatiron building.

Mayor Kasim Reed plans to announce details surrounding the launch of the Women's Entrepreneurship Initiative (or WEI as it's being called) at a Tuesday press conference.

At the same event, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE:GS) is expected to award $3 million through its 10,000 Small Businesses program to Georgia-based nonprofit group Access to Capital for Entrepreneurs Inc.

WEI would operate in a similar manner to other business incubators in the city, such as the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC) at Georgia Tech.

Housing WEI in the 118-year-old Flatiron building, at 74 Peachtree Street, would give its renovation a shot in the arm and trigger what city officials hope is a startup renaissance in the city's core.

Reed said while there's a lot of focus in Atlanta on tech startups, "this is a space I thought needed some energy ... women entrepreneurs are still having challenges with venture capital and seed investment.

He added that another big impediment for women is access to safe, appropriate office space.

A competitive process will select 15 women entrepreneurs who for 15 months will be housed in WEI free of charge. During their stay, the women will have access to best-in-class resources, including face time with some of the city's leading female executives..."

I wasn't aware women entrepreneurs were having more trouble than men securing capital, but I have noticed that you don't see many women heading up tech start-ups. I can only think of a couple of them here in Atlanta.

I was interested in learning more about Leapfrog Services, headed by a woman -- whose nickname is inexplicably "Yum."

I always drive by that building and wondered if it was the same company that makes electronic devices for kids or some other company called Leapfrog. Clearly, the answer is some other company.

So glad to see all this investment going into that beautiful building. The amount of announcements in the city lately is nothing short of mind blowing. It's an exciting time to be living in Atlanta.

I can't wait until the ridiculous exposed ductwork and sprinkler pipe look is exposed for the renovation cost saving measure that it is and buildings that have this fake loft feel are "so early 2000s" and nobody wants them anymore.

They're called ceilings, folks. Look into them.

Drop ceilings are so sterile and ugly looking. They add thousands of dollars to the cost of reno's.

Drop Ceiling helps control the noise levels,
A Open ceiling does not absorb the noise it let is bounce around making a it a very loud and distracting place to work,
