I think Erika Mitchell is district 5 (west-side), and even as a one of the vocal “no’s”, she really didn’t have anything bad to say about Carstarphen. On the radio show she essentially said that although there has been some progress in her district, it hasn’t been enough, and she is doing what is the will of her constituents. After some prodding from the host (who was pro-Carstarphen), she even said that she would be open to keeping her under certain circumstances. Even in her district that she feels has been left behind, she gives Carstarphen credit for getting 51 million dollar Woodson Park Academy started and a double digit increase in graduation rates.

Carstarphen still sounds pretty positive about her experience and what has been accomplished. She still considers Esteves a “yes” vote for her—apparently that was the last thing he had said to her. She seems to still be campaigning to keep her job—which mostly entails continuing to do her job the way she has been doing it.

That, and she seems to revel in butting heads with people in power. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

The yeas and the nays in their own words (spoiler: don’t expect much of substance as to why Carstarphen’s contract was not renewed from the nays).

Poll: APS Superintendent Meria Carstarphen has strong voter support

Quote:
An overwhelming percentage of voters with a child in the Atlanta Public Schools (75%) support extending Superintendent Meria Carstarphen’s contract beyond June 30, 2020, according to a new poll by Landmark Communications Inc.

Only 21% of those voters opposed an extension.

...

By a margin of 64%, the poll showed that Atlantans support extending Carstarphen’s contract. Only 18% opposed an extension, and 18%of voters said they were undecided.

...

According to the poll, there was no significant difference among whites and blacks in support of extending Carstarphen’s contract.

African-American voters said they support the extension by a 66% to 16% margin, while white voters support the extension by a 65% to 17% margin.

Also, a large majority of voters viewed Carstarphen’s performance favorably. By a 63% to 12% margin, voters said they have a favorable view of her job performance.

...
Seems she was pretty widely supported. Especially by those with a child in APS.
