Hispanic share of the population is projected to go up from 9% today to 21% and the Asian population share is projected to go up from 5% today to 14% which means that there will be a lot more Hispanic and Asian people moving into the metro area and that their fertility rates will be much higher compared to White families. Black share of the population will stay steady at 33% so their growth rate will stay steady, not as explosive as Hispanic or Asian families.

Once again this is a nationwide phenomenon. By 2050 Non-Hispanic whites are supposed to be a minority group accounting for around 47% of the population, Black population will stay stead at around 13%, Hispanic population will explode to around 29% of the population, Asian population to around 10%

This exactly.

And—if this holds up, Metro Atlanta will be 1/3 White, 1/3 Black, and 1/3 Other {the 80s-and-before term }

Hispanic isn't a race. It's a culture. Racially Hispanics can be white/black/ or of various mixed race ancestry. The image that most Americans think of when they hear the term "Hispanic" is the look of the Mestizo (white/native mix) and this is due to Mexico being mostly comprised of Mestizos. There are other Hispanic countries such as Argentina where the majority of the population is completely white racially. Your grandkids would be considered "some other race" unless the US adds a "mixed race" category to the 2020 census.

i think race on the census should be more like "do you identify as a member of a racial or ethnic group?" and then the second question should be a write in. you could glean a lot more useful data from a question like that. i feel like the way the census asks that question is kind of biased.

I totally understand this but it is being used as a racial break down in statistics like this article being discussed here. To think that white people are leaving Atlanta because the percentage of the overall population is lessening is wrong.

Look at what Aries posted earlier... pre 1980s it was "white, black or other" as your choices. Hispanics would choose "white" in that scenario more often than not. So I see this lower percentage of whites in predictions as being one where more choices are available and more people choose to identify as something other than white. White people aren't moving away in significant numbers, they are simply identifying as something more specific.
