I have an opportunity at a company located in Atlantic Station. I have a child in 4th grade and I'm considering relocating from Maitland, Florida (which is near Orlando).

I'd like to try to live near my office in Atlantic Station -- preferably within walking or cycling distance.

One important benefit of living in Maitland is the relatively good schools.

I was wondering if anyone had any feedback about elemenatary and middle schools near Atlantic Station and if you had any opinions about buying a condo in that area.

I liked the idea of being able to walk to publix, target, the movies etc. Seemed like a very nice place to live and work.

Atlantic Station is zoned for Centennial Place elementary school, which is not known to be the best. Just north of Atlantic Station puts you in E. Rivers Elementary which is much better. Also nearby elementary zones that are excellent would be Morris Brandon Elementary, Warren T. Jackson Elementary and Springdale Park Elementary.

You're gonna give up good schools to live within walking distance of Atlantic Station.

Try to live in the Sarah Smith school district if you can. That's in Buckhead. You'll have to make a lot of money to afford it, but that's Atlanta.

Anywhere north and west of Atlantic Station, even by 1/4 mile, puts you in E. Rivers/Sutton/North Atlanta. The railroad track to the north of AS is the border of the school district. According to APS Insights, E. Rivers is well above average for Elementary, Sutton is one of the best Middle Schools, and North Atlanta is one of the best high schools. Brandon Elementary zone is slightly further north (outside of walking distance), but is the best-performing school in the city. It will cost you to live there, though.

Atlantic Station and everything south and west is in the Grady cluster, which is also one of the best in town across elementary, middle, and high school, with the exception of Hope Hill further south. Centennial Place is not listed on the APS data explorer.

If the OP lives in Atlantic Station, the schools would be:

Centennial Place for K-8.
Grady High for 9-12.

Echoing what some others are saying, go just north of Atlantic Station and you'll be zoned for E Rivers which is going to be much better. If you get creative you can still have walking distance to Atlantic Station, but regardless you'll be very close by. Brandon is a great option too, typically more expensive and more stand along houses versus condos. I think you'll be very happy with either Rivers or Brandon.
