You can find townhouses in the Chamblee and Dunwoody areas under $300K with access to the Chamblee MARTA station and good restaurants. Look around where North Peachtree Road and 285 meet. That intersection will iook a little rough from images but it is a high income area and safe, established neighborhoods. Commute to Lilburn won't be bad if you take back roads. Thanks for all of the suggestions and ideas. We literally know nothing about the area except what we have researched online.

What sort of commute do you want, what type of shopping/restaurants are you looking for?

My husband would want no more than a 30 minute commute. I don’t need a ton of shopping, but def want a couple of close grocery stores, Walmart, Target, etc. My reason for wanting to be near public transit is that I may want to do some PRN work in healthcare. I’m not really comfortable with driving in Atl interstate traffic. Also, I think it would be fun to use when family visit and want to see the sites. As far as restaurants go, just the normal chains are fine. I guess I just don’t want to be way out in the boonies lol!

Well, while shopping around Lilburn has fallen from its peak in the 80s-90s, it is hardly the boonies, and should give you pretty good access to what you want there. As far as MARTA goes—you would have to check and see if it does what you would want it to do. As far as the more MARTA accessible suggestions go—Lantern Ridge looks interesting—the biggest thing to look at there is safety—it is sort of in the Clarkston area—which is one of those hit or miss areas—so you just have to do yo your research—it has a lot of positives and is definitely worth looking into—as sciblue said —the location is great and being a handful of townhomes mixed in with detached housing would be a plus to me. It is on (or just outside) of the edge of the booming east-side, so that is a big plus.
I have more doubts that Chamblee/Dunwoody would get you to Lilburn in 30min during rush hour—it would probably depend on where the townhomes/work are located—Atlanta traffic is pretty awful, and commute times can be pretty inconsistent.
