Could it have really turned out any better though? Without GA-400 the northern suburbs would have pretty much nothing to offer. In a economic perspective, GA-400 was a godsend to N.Fulton, the only issue is they didn't also extend HRT up there.

Watch the first Smokey and the Bandit - the car chase scene is on 400. And back in 1977 it was very rural...

A rail line and non-sprawl would’ve made it far better.

Yeah but do you know of any suburban U.S. or even Canadian cities that are connected only by a rail line without a highway within 10 miles of it that also have a plethora of employment opportunities? Most high end companies need access to a highway just as much as they do rail.

Now if you forgo the high end companies then from a commuters perspective, most likely all the jobs in Alpharetta would be in Downtown (or Atleast Perimeter area) instead of which you either took a train to or drove down winding roads... it should also be noted that most of the N.Metro is actually not local to any highway and is still very sprawly.

I believe south of Cumming and Hwy 20.

A rail line to Alpharetta could be handy, just as much for the tens of thousands who work in North Fulton as for people going south to the airport, Perimeter or somewhere in the COA.

A lot who work in Alpharetta live in Cherokee or Forsyth so I’m not sure rail would really help them. Not saying it’s a bad idea per se.

It wouldn't affect Cherokee or Forsyth, but the vast majority of people commuting to work in Alpharetta are coming from areas to its south.

This is true but I've noticed GA-400 does have alot of reverse commutes. It can be backed up going both ways in Alpharetta during commuter hours, more noticable in the evening than morning.
