Powder Springs Elementary: mediocre to poor school. It's really gone down hill over the past five years.

Cooper Middle: Not really a good school.

McEachern High: A mediocre to poor school. Was once one of the best performing high schools in Cobb County.

I don't know what to do...our price range won't allow us to be in a good school district...maybe we should increase it, however, we do not want to be submerged with bills. any good private schools?...maybe that's the solution.

Have you already taken a job? If you have, I would not reccommend that you increase your bills to something that you can't afford. I understand that it's a tough place you're in. Perhaps others will provide better insight into these schools.

gerrynyc...you have plenty of options with a maximum of $270,000!

Are you solely doing your research by internet?

Anyway...let me (and others) know where your job is located and we can recommend areas and specific subdivision/neighborhoods in your price range.

$270,000 can buy plenty. How big of a house do you want? New or resale?

Look at the schools that feed into Kennesaw Mountain H.S. It is nearby so the commute should not be massively different.

This will give a listing of the ratings for local schools in the Powder Springs area: Powder Springs schools - Powder Springs public schools - Powder Springs school ratings - Best Powder Springs schools

Several of my neighbors here in Powder Springs have moved a few miles North in order to be in the Hillgrove High School district over the last couple of years. McEachern isn't "bad" compared to some metro schools, but it's not as good as it used to be. You have a few wannabe gang-bangers going there these days and according to neighbor's kids, it's got worse as a result. At Hillgrove you tend to avoid more of this. Can't comment on the younger-aged schools in that area but the link above may help.

Right now, I'm going to focus on new homes for you:

For new homes in Cobb (in your price range)...

1. Check out the Varner Elementary School district that eventually feeds into McEachern High (schools...good and good. Tapp Middle is decent)

2. Check out the entire North Cobb High School district. Good high school, good middle schools, and good elementary schools. The middle schools that feed into North Cobb High: Barber, Awtrey, and Palmer. The elementary schools that feed into North Cobb High: McCall Primary/Acworth Elementary; Kennesaw Primary/Big Shanty Elementary; Baker Elementary; Pitner Elementary. North Cobb High is a Social Science/International Studies Magnet (top-notch)...the only one in the metro area.

**Go to the Cobb County Schools website: Cobb County School District Home Page

Look at the attendance zone maps (upper right corner of main page); look at the maps--become knowledgeable of the areas mentioned above; look at the school web sites. See what you like.

Start looking for new homes in the school districts mentioned above. As you zero-in on a few schools/areas you like, I (and others) on this site can give you more detail.

If you are interested in new homes and will be working in Kennesaw, I recommend that you also start looking at houses and school districts in Bartow County, Cherokee County, and Paulding County. These three counties will still offer a good commute to your job. The counties have good schools and many, many new houses in your price range (since they are a little farther out).

If you still desire resale after exhausting your new home search, let me know and we can start anew.

Good Luck (and narrow it down).
