I will be driving down I-75 south on July 4th, 2008 between 1-3 pm. How is the traffic on non-working days such as this? Or, are holidays hectic there? Just wondering if I should drive straight through, or hit the bypass. Thanks for any help.

You should be OK. I doubt there will be bridge work on a Holiday (that has been clogging up the connector for the past few months of weekends). A holiday afternoon will be pretty quiet. That said, be familiar with at least two options for getting through/around the city. You never know when an 18 wheeler will jack-knife into a church van and ricochet off 11 cars...

Thanks for the heads up. This will be my 16th time driving through there, but the first on a Friday, and major holiday. I am in awe each time I drive through downtown. Being from Cincy, the sheer mass of the city and it's beauty is why I do not take 285. Thanks again.

You could always dial 511 from your cell phone to check on the traffic or construction status when you are in Georgia. I assume that the number will work from an out of state cell phone carrier.

GA 511

Gay Pride is going on over that weekend in the area around Civic Center FYI.
