Smyrna is exploring whether to annex four areas around the city that would more than double its size and increase its population to 92,000 people.

But some residents in Mableton, where the largest of the four areas studied for annexation is located, fear that if Smyrna approves the annexation, it could cripple an effort underway to make Mableton its own city..."

That's quite a large area.

Mableton isn't going to be a city. That said, I don't see a point to sprawl down to Veterans Memorial more than it already has.

I think it's good to fill in the holes etc. and nearby areas. West Village up to and including Cumberland, should be the city.

Good luck getting the ITP portion, that part of town would never want to give up the Atlanta address.

Well that's between them and the Post Office, not Smyrna.

What's funny is, most places keep the original city name address anyway. Most of Sandy Springs, Chamblee, Dunwoody, etc are still addressed as "Atlanta."

In Sandy Springs' case, a super-majority of residents petitioned the USPS to make "Sandy Springs" the default city name instead of "Atlanta," but they couldn't get enough businesses to make it official. Dunwoody is probably the same.

Chamblee ZIP codes however, do not default to Atlanta.

Again, this is completely a Postal Service issue.

My part of 30329 does. We voted to be annexed by Chamblee several years ago, but everyone still uses Atlanta.

The plans do not include ITP - zip code 30339 - aka Vinings or Atlanta

However - no more Smynings!
