Atlanta waterfalls: our top 10 favorite hikes near Atlanta (Atlanta Trails)

Quote:
Atlanta’s rolling, hilly, forested terrain and abundant rivers, creeks, and streams create the perfect environment for one of the most loved of all scenic views: the waterfall. And though they might not be as grand as the waterfalls [in] the North Georgia mountains, Atlanta’s waterfalls are most definitely hike-worthy. Close to the city and easy to explore, these easy to moderate, family-friendly trails are perfect for an afternoon picnic or an early morning hike to start the day.

One of my personal favorites is GA-60 between 76 (Blue Ridge) and 19 (Dahlonega). Very twisty so more of a driving road but some good views too. Plus access to the Appalachian Trail.
Did GA-52 a month ago east of Chatsworth for the first time. Definitely worth driving.

The Ridge/Valley area in NW Georgia is really nice. Not as twisty but some good views.

Drove GA-190 which is between Columbus and Atlanta. Basically the Fall Line right at Warm Springs. Was actually better than I expected considering you aren't near the n GA mountains. If I lived in Columbus or the southern/SW metro, that would be my spot to go to

Can anyone share their favorite swimming holes with so many pools closed, and open ones overcrowded? Clean water preferred, not overcrowded dirty lake beaches.

If you're up for a hike to get there, the pool at the base of Dukes Creek Falls is amazing. It's about 8 miles north of Helen.

Within the metro area, I think the most scenic drive is the East-West Connector in south Cobb County.

I've always enjoy the little strecth between Athens and Clemson on Interstate 85. The exit before South Carolina Hwy 11 at the Lake takes you through some very beautiful scenery, although it turns into South Carolina, it starts in Georgia.

And if you all are looking for something a bit more adventurous and out of State. I recommend taking a very cheap flight from Atlanta to LA, and do the scenic Amtrak Starlight route from LA to Seattle. It was the most beautiful scenic route in America to me. It goes along the Pacific Coast highway, and through the Cascades. It was 35 hours along the California, Oregon, and Washington Coast. I just did this route the 4th of July weekend.
