It is amazing that even with all of the immense disruption that has been spawned from the public health and economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic, an institution like Kennesaw State University is reporting a record enrollment of nearly 41,000 students for the Fall 2020 Semester.

This news of KSU’s record-breaking enrollment numbers, even in the midst of all the continuing disruption of the pandemic, seems to really highlight the profound growth of the university from a small semi-rural exurban commuter campus to one of the larger postsecondary institutions in the Southeastern United States.

Quote:
KENNESAW, Ga. (Sep 1, 2020) — In what is the largest enrollment figure in school history, Kennesaw State University has welcomed more than 40,900 students this fall, marking an 8 percent increase over 2019.

The University’s record-breaking enrollment is bolstered by more than 8,100 new students representing the Class of 2024. Based on current data, the increase in freshmen and transfer freshmen this fall denotes a nearly 25 percent increase over 2019’s freshman class, which itself was 30 percent larger than the year prior. This means that KSU has the largest freshman class enrolled in bachelor’s degree programs in the state of Georgia.

Kennesaw State University keeps growing.

The university welcomed more than 40,900 students for the fall 2020 semester, an 8% increase from the 2019 enrollment of about 38,000 students, the school said Tuesday in a news release.

KSU’s freshman enrollment exceeds 8,100 students, which is a 25% increase from the 2019 freshman class. KSU now has the largest freshman class enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in the state, the university said. In 2010, fall enrollment was just 23,000.

Next challenge for them is to build several large post-graduate programs. Another medical & dental school would be great to see.

K-State is growing for the same reason many similar schools have in recent years (George Mason is a good example in the DC area; I'd also bet that Georgia Gwinnett College is just a few years behind).

It's a 4 year school (so no transfer needed), built where people live (unlike the vast majority of other USG schools) and designed to compliment their current lives (not replace them for the next four years).

It's meant to serve people who academically are fully capable of getting into schools like UGA or Georgia State, but for whatever reason (cash flow, family commitments, current employment) can't (or don't want to) up and move to the sticks to live a life of partying and going to class for the next four years.

At a price point that is affordable for nearly everyone ($6,500/year in state).

Ultimately, you've got people recalibrating what they want in a school based on stuff like that, and based on the massive inflationary hit to tuition over the past few years.

My husband chose Kennesaw to do his MBA and was really pleased with the experience. We have another friend who finished her undergrad at UGA last year, but chose Kennesaw State over UGA for her graduate work. She could not be happier with her decision.

Definitely not the same students UGA or GT get, but cool for them anyways. Their admission standards though are eh.
