Acworth actually is actively “redeveloping” it’s downtown area and appeared to have been having some degree of success in doing so before the pandemic struck in March 2020.

In addition to the new developments and construction that was mentioned earlier (including the expansion of Logan Farm Park, the construction of the new community center at the aforementioned expanded Logan Farm Park, the construction of the elevated pedestrian bridge over the CSX/Western & Atlantic Railroad to connect the north and south sides of downtown Acworth, and the construction of the new roundabout on the north side of downtown Acworth), the City of Acworth had, before the pandemic, greenlit the construction of a mixed-use development on a piece of property that it owns on the north side of the railroad tracks where efforts are being made to expand the geographical footprint of Acworth’s downtown area.

The development, which would consist of retail stores, a restaurant and residential properties, will be located at the corner of Southside Drive and Lemon Street extending toward Logan Farm Park at Taylor Street. The property would be in the new open container district when it is expanded to include the TapTown tasting emporium and eatery on Cherokee Street.

Here is also an article that talks about the City of Acworth’s ongoing active efforts to redevelop and revitalize its historic downtown area...

The Romance of public parks, plaza, downtown living, places for recreation, entertainment and great dining – a truly livable, walkable city – is a redevelopment love story coming to life in the city of Acworth. “This is a journey that our community is on. It is already 15 years in the making,” explains Mayor Tommy Allegood.

Acworth began the process with street improvements, strategic parking options and a $2 million initiative to silence the train traffic at all downtown railroad crossings. Now, the community is a step closer to a long-awaited, 450-acre redevelopment project with new amenities, revamped homes, 140 acres of green space, downtown shops, and a unique pedistrian bridge to connect it all. The efforts include a new $11 million community center, an arts building converted from a historic downtown home, traffic reconfiguration to improve access and a $1.2 million walking overpass.

The City of Acworth even appears to have won some awards and have been recognized for its efforts to revitalize its downtown area...

At the December 5, 2019 Mayor and Council Meeting, the Georgia Main Street program recognized the City of Acworth as a Georgia Exceptional Main Street community. Georgia’s Exceptional Main Street communities, also known as GEMS, represent some of the best Main Street Programs that the state has to offer. These Main Streets have gone above and beyond expectations by making a strong and positive impact in their communities. Acworth is now one of eighteen Georgia cities recognized with the GEMS distinction...

... Over the past three years, Downtown Acworth has seen $21 million in private and public investment, with 13 new business openings with 43 new jobs created, and Main Street events have attracted over 140,000 visitors to Downtown Acworth.

OP: Do not do this commute. You will not see those kids enough to justify it. Rule #2 is to live close to where you work. This does not constitute close.

Also, while we’re being down on an area like Acworth, seemingly for no good apparent reason, it probably should be noted that unincorporated Acworth encompasses some pretty nice and affluent upscale residential neighborhoods.

Affluent, upscale residential neighborhoods like:

> The Governors Towne Club gated golf-tennis-swim country club community, which straddles the Cobb-Paulding county line in the Acworth 30101 zip code...

Welcome to Governors Towne Club, Atlanta's Premiere Private Golf & Country Club Community

(... With there possibly being some irony that there is a somewhat sizable double-wide mobile home park, Fairway Villas, located immediately to the east of the affluent, upscale gated Governors Towne Club golf-swim-tennis country club community.)

> The Bentwater Golf Club golf-tennis-swim country club community, which is located in the North Paulding school cluster on the Paulding County side of the Acworth mailing area...

Bentwater Homeowners Association

> The Brookstone Golf and Country Club golf-swim-tennis community, which is located in the south end of the Acworth mailing area in affluent West Cobb County.

BROOKSTONE GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB

Welcome to the Brookstone Homeowners Association, Inc.
