I dunno, I think we're splittin' hairs at this point...just find a house you love in any of these hoods and you'll be fine.
Case Closed.

Yep, I agree with Lovin.

Re Oakhurst and Winnona. I live in Oakhurst. It's edgier and has a bit of a more urban feel - the parents are a generally a little crunchier, more hip and younger.

The schools are completely identical though as far as teaching and achievement. Again - Oakhurst school has a little hipper crowd of parents and a few more quirky, artsy kids.

There are exceptions both ways though. Oakhurst has its contingent of total yuppy, tennis mom types - while Winnona has a share of hippy/artsy types.

Winnona does not really have a commercial node central to the neighborhood. There are some commercial lofts with restaurants and a shop or two on College Avenue that are nearby but not really central. They do have a mighty nice playground right in the middle of the neighborhood though.

I love both Decatur and Candler Park. For me, however, the deciding factor was that I could get the same house (more or less) for $100,000 less in the City of Decatur than in Candler Park. Basically, that limited me to either a two-bedroom in Candler Park or a three-bedroom in Decatur. I needed three bedrooms, so the decision made itself.

Socks, you're going through the exact same dilemma that I went through a few months ago! I was looking at homes in Candler Park--though the inventory was low in my price range--and REALLY REALLY wanted to live there (probably because p-less is such an advocate for her neighbordhood, though CM and Lovin' are true Decaturites. ). However, I just bought a house in Oakhurst, and I love it. I love my neighbors, walking to Oakhurst Village and Decatur Square, and being part of an active neighborhood association. I don't have kids (umm, yet), but I know the schools are top-notch. I think I would have been happy with either Candler Park or Decatur/Oakhurst, but it just happened that there were more homes for sale in my price range, and to my liking, in Oakhurst. Good luck!

Congratulations, nerak! Oakhurst is awesome. We looked there, too, and would have been happy there.

Personally, I don't know how anyone could NOT be happing living anywhere between Decatur and Inman Park.

Can't right now...I'm out the door on the way to frolic in one of the numerous parks that are to be found in my neighborhood.
