A lot of people think that but the larger problem is the eternal 'heated debate' over what should be done.

There are 6-10 counties in the metro area each one decides to support or oppose transportation plans. This is the result.

We didn't ***** about the NJ traffic often because it was just an accepted fact of living there.
I think you nailed it, and many in Atlanta who have lived here for a long time or moved here from other parts of the south have never known traffic or the inconveniences of living in a large urban area.

I also think that the large geographic area that comprises metro Atlanta means that some areas may experience awful traffic while others don't, and certain routes are fine while others are nightmares. Going downtown from the northern suburbs is bad, but I routinely go to Alpharetta and to the airport from Marietta during rush hour and encounter little to no traffic or delays. Even on a day like today, I made it from my house in Marietta to the Gwinnett Place area via 285 and 85 (at 7:30 - 8:00am) with little traffic in about 40 min.

It really depends where you live and where you need to go. It also depends on your expectations. Up north, I was used to a 1 - 2 hour one way commute to Boston.

It sounds like some of the road construction has improved the commutes in some areas. Good to know.
