Megachurch pastor and prominent religious leader T.D. Jakes is reportedly in talks with the Fort MacPherson Local Redevelopment Authority to buy 132 acres of land at the former U.S. Army base.

I don't get it. The idea of churches being arenas and large spectacle to me is just odd.

I also don't think that such large ventures should be tax free. That's really exploiting it.

This isn't a religious non-profit venture. It is a private real estate development company owned by Jakes whose focus is building affordable housing, senior housing, hotels/resorts, and commercial development. Apparently everyone sees the name T.D. Jakes and status as megachurch senior pastor mentioned and assumes he's going to build a church, but this isn't at all what it is. This is the company's website which should allay concerns: https://tdjakesrev.com/

Wow, I am looking forward to what it will become. I hope a STEM school will be included.

Per Atlanta Business Chronicle, "Atlanta film mogul Tyler Perry and religious leader, author and film maker T.D. Jakes have reached a deal to buy a total of 132 acres at the former Fort McPherson.

Plans call for an entertainment district open to the public, complete with a theatre district, retail, restaurants and plenty of employment opportunities. The acquisition will add to the more than 330 acres Perry bought in 2015, now one of the largest production facilities in the country."

Because a Pastor is buying the land doesn't necessarily mean it is to develop a church.
All we in Atlanta need to be concerned with is that someone/some entity with a great deal of money is making a large investment into the development of Atlanta.

This can be a win for Atlanta, as long as the development isn't going to end up being some BS

Fake news, "The T.D. Jakes Real Estate Ventures group's development plans were not immediately disclosed. TDJREV says it is "committed to developing real estate and programs in response to the growing, nationwide need for affordable, attainable, and workforce housing."

If all that land were to build a church then it wouldn't be subject to property tax but that's not the case.

Tyler Perry on new Fort Mac deal: ‘It’s an incredible moment in time’

In an exclusive interview Friday morning, media mogul Tyler Perry described the vision for the entertainment district he will develop on the 37.5 acres that he is buying next to the existing Tyler Perry Studios.

“It’s going to be pretty incredible,” Perry said of the development that will cost “a minimum of $200 million” to build..."
