The Integrated Ballistic Identification System allows officers to use forensic analysis on shell casings recovered from crime scenes.

"We've linked guns already to New York to Virginia to New Orleans so it's very effective," GCPD Public Information Officer Hideshi Valle told Reporter Brian Hill..."

I've said it before when CA wanted to do the stupid "microstamping". People reload and people buy range brass. All you have to do at a crime scene is toss out a handful of someone else's used brass of the same caliber.

Some people do that but your typical criminal shootist is not known for thinking ahead or having a wily escape plan. If Gwinnett can solve some violent crimes with this I say more power to them.

A stolen gun will simply come up as a stolen gun. It's not like criminals are registering their stolen guns. Sounds political to me. It's useless. Hardly any street crime is from someone who legally passed a bgc then decided to go rob some 7-11s leaving shell casings.

Default GCPD 1st agency in Georgia to obtain rare accreditation status from CALEA

Quote:
Gwinnett County police have done something no other police agency in Georgia has done.

The county’s police department recently announced it is the first law enforcement agency in the state to receive “Tri-Arc” status from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc., better known in police circles as CALEA. The agency already held department wide accreditation, but the Tri-Arc status means it has now added accreditations for communications and the department’s training academy.

Only 27 law enforcement agencies internationally have received the Tri-Arc status, with 21 of those agencies being in the U.S., according to Gwinnett police.
