Hi all...I'm looking to relocate to Decatur this summer from New Jersey and the most important thing I'm looking for is safety...I'm a young single professional female and I want to make sure I'm in a decent area...I was looking into the Ice House Lofts at Sycamore Pl. at Commerce Dr. Anyone have any input? Thanks so much for your time!

I would say that the Ice House Lofts would be a great place for a young single female to live...
close to downtown Decatur
close to the MARTA station
a very hip neighborhood
and safe

Smile Moving to Decatur?

Being from the Midwest, I think that part of Decatur is nice. It has a great "small town" appeal, as well as it seems trendy. I currently have a friend that moved from Dekalb county to N.J. and says that Jersey is expensive, therefore based on those factors, it would be a refreshing change.

I too would think that it would be a good space for you to move to as you could easily walk to restaurants, shops and bars.

Just a little side note, the Ice House is located next to a railroad that carries commercial freight. I don't know how often they come through but I hear that the trains are suppose to slow down as the come through that section of the City.

Great complex. I would try to figure out how to be there when the train comes by though - the horn is pretty loud. My understanding is that most people get used to it though so maybe it's not a biggie.

My wife and I are moving there as well. We already spend a lot of time there and my wife feels perfectly safe. She is from a very small town so that is saying something, I think. BTW, construction is beginning on new apartments close to Ice House Lofts. Don't know when they will be completed though.
Good Luck and let us know where you end up.

Is that the complex with a cafe at ground level? Regardless, definitely a nice area to live.

I would think you would be happy almost anywhere in Decatur. I recommend visiting the neighborhood around 11pm on both a weekday and a weekend, and then determining if you are still comfortable.
