If the Buckhead de-annexation and cityhood movement is successful and Buckhead ultimately breaks away from Atlanta proper to form its own city, I might could see a scenario where Georgia state government might would allow the City of Atlanta to annex the massive cluster of extremely valuable industrial commercial property that currently sits in the last remaining unincorporated part of Fulton County that sits east of the Chattahoochee River along Fulton Industrial Boulevard in southwest Fulton County.

I could see a scenario where the State of Georgia allows the City of Atlanta to annex that often publicly and popularly overlooked but extremely valuable cluster of industrial commercial property (warehouses, distribution centers and factories) in unincorporated southwest Fulton County to compensate for the massive amount of revenue that the CoA will lose with the departure of Buckhead from the CoA jurisdiction.

The state has prevented the City of Atlanta from annexing that area for decades, but may finally allow the CoA to annex that extremely valuable industrial commercial property in unincorporated southwest Fulton County as a means of attempting to insure that the CoA may have enough funding to operate critically important basic services like police and fire protection after if the Buckhead district departs the CoA jurisdiction.

The difference is leadership did something about it…. Instead of inspiring a large chunk of its police force to quit and making the remaining force too afraid to combat crime.

What specifically was done in the past that isn't being done now? Lenox never had metal detectors until recently, and they *still* have shootings in the parking lot. There's something else going on with the mentality of these perpetrators that methods of deterrence aren't working.

I think it's too late for the CoA to annex Fulton Industrial. The City of South Fulton has annexed it, which is leaving only a little bit of land near the airport and the new UPS sorting facility in unincorporated Fulton.

Well, so much for the scenario of allowing the City of Atlanta to annex the valuable industrial property along Fulton Industrial Boulevard in the event of a successful Buckhead de-annexation from the City of Atlanta.

I’m somewhat kind of surprised that the state allowed the City of South Fulton to annex that area after preventing the CoA from annexing for decades through both Democratic and Republican control of Georgia state government.

On maps, including on both the City of South Fulton website and on Google Maps, it still shows that corridor as being unincorporated Fulton County.

Though I was wondering why the City of South Fulton Police recently operated a prostitution sting in that area along Fulton Industrial Boulevard that still shows up as being unincorporated Fulton County on multiple different maps.

16 busted in South Fulton prostitution sting - Police said within just a few hours, they made 16 arrests for prostitution-related offenses. (11Alive News, 27 June 2021)

There has always been external stuff, but between KLB, Fulton DA, and the BLM, I don’t think that the police feel they have support and the potential downside to every one of their interactions is huge—so there are less interactions, and what interactions there are are more tentative. Folks doing bad things know this.

Agreed. Even if APD went back to proactive policing, they no longer have sufficient manpower to patrol Zone 2. At any given time, fewer than 20 officers are covering an area the size of Rhode Island.

That's to say nothing about the dysfunction of Fulton County courts.

OMG, this is your wildest exaggeration yet. Are you really this ignorant regarding geography?

“Zone 2 — I hate putting this out there,” said Atlanta City Councilmember Howard Shook, who represents much of north and central Buckhead, voicing frustration. “Zone 2 on a typical shift has all of 14 people on patrol for a zone the size of Rhode Island.”
