Also the cancellation and scale back of the F22 program had a very negative effect on operations in Georgia. I'd imagine this bill will really help with lowering their cost and making it more competitive for them to build future projects in Georgia hopefully.
Gotcha. Thanks!

Reading the text of the bill, its tailored to land just such a major production contract for Georgia.
I found this article in Air Force Magazine. Skunk Works VP Babione is obviously low key about specifics on what project is coming to Marietta but seems it’s in the works.

Quote:
He also said “we are opening up a new classified facility in Marietta, as well, so I do see a significant shift … as we transition to these core manufacturing capabilities.”

Why Marietta? “We’re running out of space,” Babione said. While this pushed the production of the new plant, which has a height of about 80 feet, there is “significant unused space in Marietta. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of that as well as add capability. We don’t have any classified manufacturing space in Marietta.”

Default 1,000 new jobs could be coming to Lockheed Martin at Dobbins ARB in Cobb County

Lockheed Martin says that its LMXT aerial refueling tanker will be built partially in Georgia, creating 1,000 new jobs at its massive manufacturing complex at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta in Cobb County ... That’s IF Lockheed Martin wins a federal government contract to build the tanker.

Lockheed already employs more than 4,000 employees at its manufacturing complex at Dobbins ARB in Marietta in Cobb County.

That complex has been used to operate military vehicles and machinery for almost 80 years since the early 1940’s when it was known as the Bell Bomber factory during World War II.

Lockheed Martin has had a presence at that facility since the Korean War and currently makes military transport planes and part of the F-35 fighter jet at that location.

Quote:
The bidding process could take another two years. But Lockheed says if it prevails, the LMXT strategic tanker would be built in two phases — the first in Mobile, Alabama, and the second in Marietta.

Gov. Brian Kemp says Lockheed’s decision to build the aircraft in Georgia speaks to the quality of technical education in the state.

“That workforce they need at all levels is being produced in our state,” said Kemp. “And I think that’s one reason we’re seeing so many great companies that are coming here or great companies like Lockheed that are able to form partnerships and continue to expand their mission.”

It sounds like the LMXT, which is essentially a converted Airbus A330, will be assembled at Airbus' plant in Mobile, and then they'll be sent to Dobbins for the actual tanker conversion.

Of course this all hinges on them winning the KC-Y contract. After the whole KC-X boondoggle and the shady way it was awarded to Boeing, who knows what'll happen.

The Lockheed specific tanker would be dependent on kcy. The Airbus tanker (Airbus A330 MRTT) and the Airbus plant in mobile aren't, just in case anyone was wondering. Both those products are going forward no matter what happens with the us military contract.
