Is the city planning on doing anything to fix any of the roads of Atlanta soon? There are a couple of areas throughout the city with poorly maintained roads and potholes but majority of the West/SW parts seemed to be the worst. In my opinion, it seemed to be that the closer you get to the downtown core, the worse they get and even a couple in the heart of downtown. Everything above midtown is perfectly fine tho.

I have noticed that ironically the road that the Governor's Mansion is on, West Paces Ferry is one of worst roads I've driven on.

It seemed like a normal intown road to me. Didn't see anything wrong with it.

Is that how all the roads are? I zig zag all over the place trying to avoid potholes and badly filled holes that are huge bumps. There’s a lot of nice expensive homes and it seems wrong to have to put up with it. The roads aren’t nearly as bad up here in Marietta.

With the prior mayor there was a big push to get the roads repaved as he said the same thing- million+ dollar houses and potholes everywhere. I think he ended up getting 10% of his goal paved- it simply comes down to the budget- I dont think the city has it to repave, as its spending it more on redoing roads as the aging infrastrucuture is requiring redoing at the sewer/pipes- which means ripping up those roads.

Also consider that West Paces Ferry carries a ton of commuter traffic it wasn't intended to between 75 and Peachtree.

There seems to be way more potholes ITP vs OTP. There also seem to be fewer potholes in urban Atlanta than I see in other major cities.

In general for most core urban areas, when accounting for streets, there are alot more of them in one general area (especially in a grid) and they usually receive more traffic volume than suburban areas which have major arteries that funnel traffic to interstates. In urban areas you have many more local streets that deal with great volumes of traffic so urban core streets generally do not receive the same TLC as suburban roads as they have many more to account for with a budget that isn't substantially greater than most suburban areas.

ITP Atlanta roads while not up to par to Suburban Roads are nowhere near as bad as places like Chicago, New York, ect... basically places where you could hit a pothole hard enough to find yourself on the side of the road with a bent wheel or flat tire. Chicago's roads took out one of my wheel bearings once.

The only thing that does get kind of old are the metal plates. Chicago uses them too though.
