Heh. I got my kid a 404 number when we finally decided to put a SIM in her phone this past summer.
She still gets some spam texts, but we are slowly working our way through getting them blocked

So 943 will be the 5th area code for the Atlanta metropolitan area along with the existing 404, 770, 678 and 470 area codes?

I remember in the early 90s when it was just 404 and then the additions of 678 and 770 later in the decade. Crazy to look at the growth and all the additional area codes.

I preferred it when there was no area code.

Part of the issue is all of those robo/spam callers taking a lot of the phone #s and essentially using them as burner #s.

There have been area codes since 1947. For decades, though, you didn't have to dial them, because a single area code covered a very large area. When they started splitting area codes, many of them still allowed you to skip dialing the area code if you weren't crossing a boundary line. Now that area codes are not geographically restrained, and multiple codes cover the same area, you have to dial it.

You mean basically before 10-digit dialing was required for local calling.
